Step ConceptAtelier

  Step Concept milestones
  • 1994
  • Birth of the business following the decision by founder Jean-Luc Martineau (a designer of accessories for caravans and camping-cars) to open a workshop in Saint André des Eaux (Loire-Atlantique) to manufacture and market steps.

  • 1996
  • Sales grow rapidly after contracts are won in the UK and Spain, requiring the company to move to bigger premises in Les Sables d'Olonne (Vendée) and hire an employee.

  • 2001
  • Contract signed with Gruau to provide steps for the Renault 9-16 seater minibus.

  • 2002
  • Jean-Luc Martineau joins forces with Didier Garrot and the company takes the name STEP CONCEPT. A second workshop is created in Loiron(Mayenne-53).
The product range is extended with the addition of folding ramps.

  • 2004
  • As the Loiron workshop becomes too small, the site is relocated to the neighbouring village of Le Genest St Isle (current facility).

  • 2005
  • Step Concept receives the prestigious Gazelle business award from Renaud Dutreil, the French Minister for SMEs.

  • 2008
  • Jean-Luc Martineau leaves to take a richly deserved retirement. Production from the site in Les Sables d’Olonne is transfered to the Genest St Isle plant.

  • 2009
  • Step Concept receives third prize in the ‘Prix Stars & Métiers’ awards.
